Wear in the World: New York

28-06-2011 | In : Wear in the World

Libby Banks is Editor of MyDaily.co.uk and Style Editor of the Huffington Post. She’s getting married to Jon in July, and for her honeymoon they’re heading to New York before spending some time in the Hamptons and the beaches of New England.

Best outfit or fashion item for destination? A high waisted 50s bikini (Diane Von Furstenberg has some amazing styles), Linda Farrow sunglasses, a silk shirt for the evening (Equipment’s hot pink shirt is incredibly flattering), and a vintage turquoise kaftan that was given to me by my flamboyant grandmother.

Beauty tip? Never go out with our some serious SPF on your skin. I’m all about the faux tan (and staving off wrinkles). I love Invisible Zinc – it smells delicious! I also love Miller Harris Terre de Bois. To me it smells of summer.

What will you listen to? Warpaint, The Fool. I’m also slightly addicted to a compilation of early black rock’n’roll called Roll Your Money Maker.

What will you read? I’m going to take a couple of F Scott Fitzgerald titles to get me in the East Coast mindset. Probably The Beautiful And The Damned. I’ve also just been given a copy of Caitlin Moran’s How To Be A Woman, which I reckon will be essential reading for a newlywed.

Holiday packing tip? Pack your shoes. Put half of them back in your wardrobe. Bitter experience has show that I bring at least twice as many shoes than is humanly possible to wear on a trip.

What will you be drinking? Campari and tonic. Campari and freshly squeezed orange juice. Gin on the rocks.

What always comes with you? My iPod, a beaten up brown leather holdall that my parents brought back from Morocco.

Hand luggage or hold? Hold – I’m a prolific packer.

When do you feel you need a holiday the most? After fashion weeks and often, strangely, when I’ve just returned from a holiday.

What smells remind you of being on holiday? Adnams beer and fresh crab reminds me of family summers in Walberswick, Suffolk.

Do you keep your phone switched on? Emails off, phone switched on for emergencies.

Do you wear jewellery on holiday? Definitely. I think some serious statement jewellery is the secret to a minimal wardrobe. If you keep the clothes to a tight muted palette of caramel, navy, white, you can go crazy with neon or chunky gold necklaces.

Who is your favourite holiday companion? My boyfriend (soon to be husband!)

I dream of wearing… Head to toe s/s 2011 Jil Sander, a Christopher Kane fluoro cocktail dress for the evening, and an Alexander McQueen feathered ball gown.

Our photographer, Nicholas Kay Brigly,  is a massive tennis enthusiast. This week, he’s been down at Wimbledon, soaking up the atmosphere, Pimms and sunshine.

Back at the s-p headquarters, we’re all pretty jealous. It’s not everyday you get to see Nadal and del Potro fight it out in the sunshine –  instead, we’ve had to make do with Nicholas’s mouthwatering pics.

Should we manage to make it down, here’s what we’ll be wearing:

Sunglasses by Linda Farrow Luxe, striped top by Chinti and Parker, shorts by Current/Elliott, trilby by Ecua Andino, bag by Ally Capellino and shoes by Bloch.

Secret Garden Party

24-06-2011 | In : Uncategorized

From bubbles to bubbles: Operations Director Ashleigh Burnside

This weekend our soon-to-be-married Operations Director, Ashleigh Burnside, is heading off on a secret weekend with her girlfriends. Little does she know that we’ve been in secret correspondence with her friends and know exactly what her hen weekend entails…

Later this afternoon, Ashleigh and her friends will be escaping to the Forest of Dean, an ancient surviving woodland  tucked into the western part of the county of Gloucestershire. As thousands flock to the damp Glastonbury fields for rough and ready, rock ‘n’ roll camping, Ashleigh and six of her dearest friends will be embarking on a very different outdoors experience. They will be glamping at the Dome Garden in a luxury geodesic dome set deep within the forest.

Julie Anne Sloan, buyer at Next and hen party planner says that ‘Ashleigh has mentioned a few times that she’d like to go yurting in the forest so we found the perfect answer. She is not a go-clubbing/get dressed up/be-really-rowdy kind of girl. What we want is to chill, drink champagne and soak up the relaxing atmosphere in preparation for her big day’.

Julie Anne and Emily have been kind enough to pass over a few special pics of our bride-to-be-the-early-years, and give us the weekend plan, and the bring-with list she gave to Ashleigh.

Ashleigh with her lifelong friends

Ashleigh's List

FRIDAY: Everyone arrives at the dome about 3pm (Ashleigh at 4pm) which gives us just enough time to get the balloons up, prepare the fire pits and chill the champagne before Ash arrives. The BBQ will run into the evening whereupon the forest gets dark, so we’ve kitted ourselves out with lanterns and candles.

SATURDAY: After a late breakfast we’re going to take a wander and explore the area a bit. In the afternoon it’s time for face masks, manicures and champagne. Afterwards we’re going to find the local pub to have a few drinks with ‘yeocals’ then it’s pizza back at the dome. There’s a big outdoor brick pizza oven and live music until late at night. Once that’s finished it’ll be time for tales around the campfire; an opportunity for us to take Ashleigh down memory lane.

Ashleigh: the early years.

SUNDAY: Last day of the weekend means a walk through the forest then to another local pub for a big Sunday roast. After that, it’s back to the city.

Wear in the World: Champoluc, Italy

23-06-2011 | In : Wear in the World

Claire Denholm is a management consultant and founder of Smart Resource Ltd. She talks us through her favourite destination of Champoluc in the Aosta Valley, Italy.

Best place to eat: Lo Pejo.

Best place to drink: In front of the fire at the Breithorn Hotel.

Best place to sleep: The Monte Rosa Suite in Mascognaz.

Best time of year to visit: Early September.

Things to avoid: Driving the wrong way down the one-way street that is the main road…

Off the beaten track finds: Pack a picnic and a bottle of wine and hike up to the ice-blue Lakes of Pinter.  Settle down among the wild flowers and look up at the towering Monta Rosa range of mountains.  Pour.

Best outfit or fashion item for destination: Haglofs jacket,  Arcteryx hiking shorts,  Patagonia ‘wicking’ shirt, Peak fleece and a corkscrew.

Carmex classic lip balm and Invisible Zinc face and body sunscreen

Beauty tip: Carmex and Factor-30 Invisible Zinc.  Tinted eyelashes.

Holiday packing tip: Put all your sunscreen tubes inside your hiking boots.  Usually this works well…

What I bought: New hiking boots (sunscreen burst).

What I listened to/read/learnt: Read ‘Stuart, A Life Backwards’.  Fascinating, often brutal, tale of one man’s chaotic life told through the eyes of the journalist Alexander Masters.
