Heritage Holiday: Cambridge

04-10-2011 | In : Beauty, Fashion

The University and its 31 colleges dominate the centre of Cambridge. It lends the city the quintessentially English charm of a period drama. It was in fact Christ Church college in Cambridge that was the setting for parts of Evelyn Waugh’s Brideshead Revisited, as well as Lewis Carrol’s Alice in Wonderland and it was also used to film parts of J.K Rowling’s Harry Potter. The ancient looking shop fronts display women’s fashion from what seems a bygone era, the tea shops are sleepy and the Sunday market attracts a thick soup of tweed clad academics and students. But with the bicycles whizzing down the cobbled streets and the bells ringing from the cathedral you can’t help but slip into the rhythm of one of Britain’s most historical cities. It’s packed with culture; laminated posters for theatre, recitals, concerts, films and literary events hang from every inch of the railings of the ornately carved buildings and there are historical , garden and punting tours to keep the scores of tourists happy. If you’re heading to Cambridge for a heritage holiday, don’t pack your bag without checking our sartorial guide to 24 hours in Cambridge. Read the rest of this entry »

London Fashion Week Trendspotter

19-09-2011 | In : Beauty, Fashion

London Fashion Week is in full swing and the capital is buzzing with excitement. Between running to appointments, shows and parties, we’ve spotted six key trends sure to shake up the city. (pictured above clockwise)

1.) Heritage with a twist

- No one does designer coats like Sophie Hulme – Pull on her leather sleeved trench for the ultimate in London heritage dressing

2.) Ankle boots

- Ash footwear will see you through the seasons, especially this gorgeous pair of black pull on booties – perfect for running around chic street

3.) Aztec Print

- Aztec print is everywhere! We have fallen for Antik Batik’s embellished silk number; it’s a luxurious take on the Mexican print trend.

4.) Mustard yellow

- Everyone in the front row is doing it – it’s a colour that’ll gently take people out of the summer months and into winter mode. We’re going for Current/Elliot’s mustard cords.

5.) Sheer blush lips

- Sheer lipstick is easy to wear and has a softening appearance, rather than the harsh effects of some bright lip colours. We’re channeling BECCA for lips.

6.) Metallic nails

- We’re taking a break from the bold talons we’ve been seeing all summer and embracing a darker, more sultry mood. Marian Newman’s got the colours and we’ve got the love. She’s just done the shows for Tom Ford, Acne, Paul Smith, Richard Nicoll and Jonathan Saunders. Mystery killer nails it is.

If you’re hitting London this week, don’t forget to take a look at the interview our founder, Sarah Walter, did with Virgin last week about her London Fashion Week tips and bits. To read the full interview click here.
