Sound Waves

We l-o-v-e this.

Sound artist Bill Fontana is creating a sound piece to be broadcast from speakers at the Wellcome Collection over the busy hubbub of the Euston Road. The sound in the piece will be that of waves gently hitting the pebbles of Dorset’s Chesil beach, an unusual eighteen mile stretch with a lagoon on one side. We feel soothed just thinking abut it, but as Fontana rightly points out it’s all about the unexpected contrast of beach meeting city. He says “ if you were to take a wonderful recording of Euston Road traffic and played it in the middle of a desert, it could have something magical about it that you fail to appreciate in its usual setting. ” Given our travel ethic we’re champions of happy displacement at sp.
